Reconstruction of 12th century Slavic headband from Novosyelki - red wool, natural linen
Length: 85 cm
Width: 1,7 cm
Material: masser red 100% wool + natural 100% linen
Location: 12th century female grave, Novosyelki, Russia
This headband was based on 12th century burial find from Novosyelki, Moscow region. It comes from a Slavic grave and had temple rings typical for Vyatichi tribe attached. The original photograph shows gaps betwen wool fibers which might be interpreted either as a sort of brocading, texture weave or missing threads of different material that decayed.
I recreated the pattern with madder dyed red wool and natural coloured (unbleached) linen. Headband is supposted to be tied to a knot. Headband can be used just like it is, decorated with pendants or used as a part of more elaborate headdress.
