Belt with double spirals and gungnir. (plant dyed yarn)
Width: 2 cm
Length: 213 cm (+tassels)
Material: 100% wool
Colours: medium yellow-green (onion skins), blush pink (sappan wood), beige (grey stone lichen), green (birch leaves + iron sulfate)
Fine ribbon handwoven of plant dyed yarns. It can be used as a regular belt or as a handfasting ribbon. I used pure Norwegian wool and plant material collected in my home. Alum and iron sulfate were used as mordants.
The pattern is made by two-hole technique and was designed by myself. It is not based on any particular historical artifact. Double spirals in Indo-European imagery usually stand for the flow of time - folding past and unfolding future. The rhombus may either be interpreted as symbol of Gungnir, Odin's magical spear made by dwarves which never misses its target or simply as symbol of earth. It is solely up to you.
