Woven with ancient technique, this Finnish Iron Age ribbon interpretation is crafted from handspun and plant dyed yarns. The pattern comes from 12th century AD burial in nowadays Kaarina. The original band labeled "KM 27196:31079" was even finer than mine and remains of original colours were still visible.
I spun the yellow yarn myself on vintage Telemark Prinsesse spinning wheel instead of drop spindle. I used lac and onion skins to dye the yarn. Both of them were unknown to ancient Finns. I am a 21 century crafter and this interpretation is my personal tribute to ancient weaver.
